Spencer Pratt's sale of sex tape surprised Vivid founder

Rumors have been circling that Spencer Pratt has been trying to sell sex tapes starring his ex-wife, Heidi Montag. But, no one was more surprised about the tapes than Steven Hirsch, the founder and co-chairman of Vivid Entertainment. He received an unexpected call from Pratt himself, which set the talks in motion.

"Apparently Spencer Pratt called Steven, and that's what happened," an insider said to TODAYshow.com. "Steven told me about it after he got the call. He had no inkling he was going to get the call."

Vivid Entertainment, which specializes in adult films, has released some of the best-selling celebrity sex tapes, including ones from Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton and Kendra Wilkinson. Now, the company is looking to add the Montag tape to its lucrative collection, the source said. The insider added that Hirsch himself has not seen any of the footage. There's no way to confirm if Pratt has possession of the tapes, which TMZ reported feature Pratt and his ex-wife, as well as Montag and Karissa Shannon, one of Hugh Hefner's ex-girlfriends. "It's just in talks," the source said.

"It's accurate to say that it's still early in negotiations, but we're hopeful that everything can work out," Hirsch said in an email to TODAYshow.com.
