Update, 3 p.m. ET: Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger have issued a statement saying that "while it has been a very scary week, Christopher is surrounded by his family and friends. He is a brave boy and is expected to make a full recovery." They went on to thank the paramedics, lifeguards and medical staff who helped their son, and went on to "thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers and ask for respect and privacy for Christopher and our family."

Sources tell NBC that Christopher’s accident occurred while boogie-boarding on Sunday. And while he was in serious condition (his current condition remains unclear), he is expected to make a full recovery.
Original post: Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver's 13-year-old son Christopher is in the hospital after suffering serious injuries in a surfing accident last weekend. According to TMZ, Christopher has been in the ICU in a Los Angeles-area hospital; he suffered broken bones and a collapsed lung after having the accident in Malibu.
Sources close to the family confirm that both parents have been together every day at the hospital, and there is no hostility between the two. Divorce proceedings are “totally amicable,” according to a source close to the family.
